The Turbex Wind Turbine is fitted with a three-phase alternating current (AC) permanent magnet (PM) alternator. The alternator generates electricity that varies in voltage and frequency with wind speed. This power can be utilized for battery charging applications or connect to the utility grid for electric bill reduction and blackout protection.
The machines are equiped with a stormwind feathering device which turns the wheel out of the wind at about 45 km/hr wind speed. The feathering speed can also be adjusted . When the wind calms down, it automatically opens up.
The generator is a 3 phase Permanent Magnet alternator with the magnets attached to the rotor. These alternators has a very high efficiency of converting mechanical energy into electricity. The 3 phase power is lead to the battery pack where it is rectified to produce the DC required. DC voltages can be supplied at 24, 36, 48, 60, 120 and 240 volts. The higher voltage systems usually has a higher convertion efficiency and are therefore preferred.
The drag wheel design of these machine has overspeeding automatically taken care off.
